Annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive
Hudson County CASA is currently distributing 200 backpacks to foster children. The backpacks were purchased and stuffed with school supplies thanks to the generous support of Barclays, Hoboken Family Alliance and the Robert and Joan Dircks Foundation. Volunteer María Hidalgo, a junior at North Bergen High School, organized the supplies and filled each backpack. Thanks to everyone for helping CASA kids start the school year on the right foot.
Thanks to our sponsors!!!

More than 10 local vendors attended the event happily serving brew to Hudson County CASA friends and supporters. Board Member, and owner of Heidi's European Pretzels, Robert Johnson, featured a great selection of gourmet pretzels which were a crowd favorite. A big thanks to Board Member, Janna Narke for her tireless work helping to organize the event, to The Turtle Club for a fantastic opportunity, and of course much appreciation to all who attended!
Thank you to everyone who made our Holiday Toy Drive a great success! CASA will continue to collect gifts in our office through the end of the week.
Friday, June 18, 2010 CASA Celebrates the Grand Opening of the St. Paul's Center for Caring
Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Pastor Jessica Lambert, CASA Youth Yosua Cordero, CASA Executive Director Beverly Savage, Senator Robert Menendez, & Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. On Friday June 18th, Hudson County CASA celebrated the Grand Opening of the St. Paul's Center for Caring. The St. Paul's Center for Caring is a community service center that serves residents of Hudson County in a variety of ways. The Center was officially incorporated in 2008, though it has been serving those in need for many years. In addition to Hudson County CASA, the center houses the largest food pantry in Hudson County (The Sharing Place), St. Paul's Lutheran Home for Children, Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, and St. Paul's Church. The Center is the first of its kind in Hudson County bringing services to residents from a variety of independent nonprofit organizations. The recent renovation of the parish hall and church basement was made possible by Community Development Block Grants, or CDBG funding, from both Jersey City and Hudson County. Guests from around the county came to celebrate the opening of this service center, including Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, and Senator Robert Menendez. Senator Menendez commended the work done at the Center for Caring by saying, "Now we dedicate this new, reclaimed, renovated church basement - with new offices and meeting rooms - a well-deserved change that may make the work of the Center a little easier but it certainly can't make it any more valuable or more important than it has always been." |
