Who We Are

HCCASA serves children from across Hudson County. A non-profit organization located in Jersey City, HCCASA is part of a state network. Nationally, there are more than 1,000 CASA programs working in local communities.

Executive Director

Beverly Savage has been the Executive Director of HCCASA since 2005 and has led the organization through a period of growth of its volunteer base, staff and the number of children served.

In 2009, Beverly secured a new home for HCCASA as part of a non-profit collaborative, the St. Paul’s Center for Caring, located in the heart of Jersey City. In 2008 she was recognized for her leadership by United Way of Hudson County when they named her the recipient of their Vivian Dupree Leadership Award.

Before joining HCCASA, Beverly was Director of Development & External Affairs at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, North Jersey Affiliate. She is a trustee emeritus of the Kent Place School for Girls and a past president of the Board of Trustees of Stevens Cooperative School. A graduate of Barnard College in New York City, she has served as an advisory board member of the Barnard Business and Professional Women's Group.

Prior to her non-profit work, Beverly was a reporter for The Star Ledger and has written for the New Jersey section of the New York Times.

Volunteers

HCCASA volunteers are appointed by family court judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure these children don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. They stay with each case until it is closed, and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.

There are currently more than 60 volunteers donating their time and energy as advocates to HCCASA. Our volunteers represent a true cross section of the community: active and retired professionals who have worked in a variety of industries, business owners, and graduate students, of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.

Meet our volunteers and learn what these dedicated individuals have to say about their experiences as child advocates.
